Blurring the line between physical and virtual worlds, baron lanteigne transposes the online exhibition Re|Search into a three-dimensional environment recalling the gallery's white cube. The work looks, not without irony, at how exhibitions are staged and at the conditions under which online visitors receive them. In that sense it extends the artist's interests in online participation and in the spatialization of the Web. framed scrolling draws the online visitor into a labyrinthine course. With no real beginning or end, and presented as a loop, the video creates the illusion of an endless exploration and, as a result, an exhaustion of images, of spaces and of the subject itself. A true mise en abyme, the work offers a glimpse of the exhibition while evoking the variability of online experience. text by Lisa Tronca

As the pandemic pushed many art events online, virtual museums emerged promising immersive and interactive experiences. In practice, they often became linear, technically constrained spaces where artworks were over-compressed to accommodate outdated hardware. I was struck by how these methods of online diffusion frequently diluted the essence of the works, reshaping both their perception and their substance.

In framed scrolling, you are stuck on "rails" in an endless tour of a virtual museum filled with screens on which you can watch me scroll through different pieces from the online exhibition Re|Search. This virtual exploration is a reflection on our relation with screens and space and how those can impact our perception of artworks. My aim was to generate something pointless and cumbersome by how it aspires to present artworks which are now trimmed and distorted. Their integration in physical space disfavors how we consume the works. That said, please visit the "originals".
